It works two ways--with a warm can, you can slip this on and stick the can in the freezer for a few minutes for rapid cooling; with a cold can you can use it to keep your drink cool while you drink it. I also love the Vacu Vin Wine Chiller, which works the same way. When I'm ready to chill down a bottle of wine for dinner, I slip the frozen sleeve around the bottle, pop it all into the freezer for 10 minutes, and presto! Perfectly chilled wine in no time. They consist of six flexible plastic capsules probably filled with gelled water-alcohol solution, all wrapped in a sliver plastic foil. They fold up into fairly flat packages to fit in the freezer. Even at freezer temperatures the gel never turns to solid, although at really cold temperatures it does get pretty slushy. (If it froze solid it would have more heat absorbing capacity, but it would expand and rupture the capsules.) The sleeve slides firmly over a standard U.S. 12 fl. oz. (355 ml) beverage can. If the can starts out cold the sleeve will keep it quite cold for 30-45 minutes in a normal room environment -- no more than an hour at most.
